Introducing Our Baby Class

I want to take this blog post to introduce you all to the Our Baby Class (OBC) classes that I am now offering.

The mission of Our Baby Class is to build confidence in parenting through a simple, intuitive, and practical approach. Part informational class and part support group, these classes provide a safe place to explore early parenting topics and share experiences with parents at similar places in their parenting journey all while guided by a trained teacher/mentor, me.

The OBC approach is best summed up in the Guiding Principles which I love!

1.    Trust your instincts.

2.    You can’t spoil a baby.

3.    If what you are doing is working for you, your partner, and your baby, great! Keep doing it!

4.    If what you are doing is not working for you, your partner, or your baby, it’s ok! You can change it!

5.    There are no magical times when you must start or stop something.

6.    No habit you create now is irreversible.

7.    And never forget, trust your instincts!

As I read through the website, I found myself agreeing with everything I was reading. The guiding principles were already concepts I regularly used when talking to breastfeeding moms as well as in my own parenting. It’s not often that an approach so nicely blends research and instinct while providing room for different parenting approaches.

So, the approach is great, but what are these classes actually about?

There is a core series of 4 classes geared for the postpartum time, or 4th trimester, which covers many of the early parenting topics parents most struggle with: normal infant sleep, soothing and bonding, tips and tricks, and embracing your new normal. These classes provide practical information and a great place to be around other new moms and start building your parenting village. I wish I’d had something like this to go to after my son was born! I offer these classes Thursday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm on a rotating basis.

There are also a range of specialty classes that cover prenatal topics, returning to work, and older baby topics. These classes provide the same practical, evidence-based information and space to share emotions and experiences. If you see a class you are interested in, and no date listed, feel free to reach out. Many of these classes can be done privately as well as in a group.

So, I hope that you will check out my offerings, register for a class, or share with an expecting or new parent you know!
