Private Childbirth Classes

Whether you need the flexibility of scheduling a childbirth class based around your busy schedule, or you prefer the intimacy and individual attention of a private class, I can tailor the class to your specific situation.

Private classes:

  • Give extra time for questions
  • Allow us to focus extra time on topics of your choosing
  • Can be scheduled around your busy life
  • Provide individual attention to address your concerns
  • Can include time to discuss previous birth experiences

Preparing for some types of births can be more difficult. Private classes either as a short add on to a group class or as a comprehensive private class can allow for additional information and emotional support. Planning a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), scheduled cesarean, and pregnancy after loss  can all bring unique challenges for expecting parents, and you may desire a private class to feel best prepared.

Private class: $75 per hour.

I can help determine the length of time needed after hearing more about your goals.

Classes are held in my home in Capitol Hill, Washington DC less than 2 blocks from Stadium Armory Metro.

Exact address will be given after class registration.

Birth Class FAQ

Why should I take a childbirth class?

Birth classes decrease fear of birth by helping  you understand what to expect from birth. You learn the risks and benefits of common interventions so that you can make informed decisions during your labor. Childbirth education gives you coping tools to use while laboring to better work with the birth process. Childbirth preparation also encourages conversations about birth and parenting between the pregnant person and partner.

Why can’t I just go with the flow?

There are choices being made about your birth whether or not you are making them. Knowing your options allows you to make informed choices. Making informed decisions with your care provider gives you ownership over the experience. Actively making choices ensures that your care aligns with your values and needs.

Does where I give birth matter?

Where you give birth will determine many of your standard care policies. Maternity care policies vary greatly from place to place. It is possible to receive care that is not routine for your birth setting, but you will have to advocate for yourself.
